山田 亘（Ko Yamada） 日本の写真家、アートディレクター、アートプロデューサー

オハイオ大学芸術学部（アメリカ）でBFAおよびMFAを取得後、米国にて日本のアーティスト (Japanese Photography Artist) としてのキャリアをスタート。1994年のFotoFest（ヒューストン）、1995年の国際写真会議（サンパウロ）での個展を経て、1997年に東京国際写真ビエンナーレに選出され奨励賞受賞、1998年には東京都写真美術館の企画展「Medialogue (メディアローグ）」に参加し、日本での本格的な活動を開始しました。

2002年のISEA2002（電子芸術国際会議名古屋2002）名古屋大会事務局次長への就任を機に、写真、サウンド、新聞・書籍等の印刷媒体、パフォーマンス、映像を横断するインターディシプリナリーな表現へと活動を広げました。特に新聞媒体を用いた関係性の芸術「なるへそ新聞プロジェクト」は、名古屋、大阪、ベルリン、そして「あいちトリエンナーレ2016」国際展などで継続的に発表されています。

近年は、日本のアートディレクター (Japanese Art Director) および 日本のアートプロデューサー (Japanese Art Producer) として、メディアアートフェスティバル「ストリーミング・ヘリテージ」の運営ディレクター（2021-2023）や、バンコク・デザインウィーク（2024, 2025）への参画など、国際的なプロジェクトを牽引。また、あいちトリエンナーレ2025の連携企画プログラム　ART FARMing2025 「声になる町」のプロデュース・ディレクションも担当しています。

教育者としても、日本の写真教育に長年携わっており、アーティスト・コレクティブ「長者町スクール・オブ・アーツ」や写真学校「PACell」の運営、さらに愛知淑徳大学、名古屋大学、名古屋芸術大学、名古屋造形大学、名古屋学芸大学、中部大学等の諸大学にて、写真、映像、メディアリテラシー、デザイン等の教育に従事しています。

Ko Yamada – Japanese photographer, art director, and art producer

After earning his BFA and MFA from the College of Fine Arts at Ohio University (USA), he started his career in the United States as a Japanese Photography Artist. Following solo exhibitions at FotoFest (Houston) in 1994 and the International Photography Conference (São Paulo) in 1995, he was selected for the Tokyo International Photography Biennale in 1997, where he received the Encouragement Award. In 1998, he participated in the exhibition "Medialogue" at the Tokyo Photographic Art Museum, marking the full-scale launch of his activities in Japan.

Upon his appointment as Deputy Secretary-General for ISEA2002 (International Symposium on Electronic Art Nagoya 2002), he expanded his practice into interdisciplinary expression, crossing over photography, sound, print media such as newspapers and books, performance, and video. In particular, his relational art utilizing newspaper media, the "Naruheso Newspaper Project," has been continuously presented in Nagoya, Osaka, Berlin, and at the "Aichi Triennale 2016" international exhibition.

In recent years, as a Japanese Art Director and Japanese Art Producer, he has led international projects, including serving as the Managing Director of the media art festival "Streaming Heritage" (2021–2023) and participating in Bangkok Design Week (2024, 2025). He is also responsible for the production and direction of ART FARMing 2025 "Koe ni Naru Machi" (The Town Is A Voice), a collaborative program for the Aichi Triennale 2025.

As an educator, he has been involved in photography education in Japan for many years. He manages the artist collective "Chojamachi School of Arts" and the photography school "PACell," and has been engaged in teaching photography, video, media literacy, and design at various universities, including Aichi Shukutoku University, Nagoya University, Nagoya University of Arts, Nagoya Zokei University, Nagoya University of Arts and Sciences, and Chubu University.
